Koenigsegg has a new one: Jesko

Koenigsegg can't let it go. No sooner have the Swedes set a world speed record - with the Agera RS - than they are already working on a new vehicle that is to be even more powerful and even faster. This spring Koenigsegg presented its new car: it is called Jesko, is powered by a record-breaking 1280 or 1600 hp and is supposed to break the 480 km/h barrier.

The name "Jesko
Jesko von Koenigsegg, himself a successful entrepreneur and father of Christian von Koenigsegg, founder of the Swedish Koenigsegg sports car brand, was the first chairman of the company and supported his son with his knowledge and experience during the first 5 years of his entrepreneurship. But his passion for the Koenigsegg automobile is so high that he never stopped promoting it, be it at the Cannes Film Festival, be it representing Koenigsegg year after year at the Geneva Motor Show. For Koenigsegg's 25th anniversary, there is a new model christened with his father's name, how touching. And he knew nothing about it until the christening and worldwide debut presentation at the Geneva Motor Show in March 2019.

Record power and speed of light
Overall, the Jesko is larger than its ancestors, Koenigsegg speaks of 40 mm front and rear and 22 mm higher. This not only makes it look bigger, but also offers more space and legroom. The all-carbon body has been given a racy front end and a mighty rear spoiler. The heart of the car, its engine, has also been completely redesigned. The new 5-liter twin-turbo V8 engine has received a new ultra-light 180-degree flatlane crankshaft that allows the Jesko to unleash more power. New, larger turbos have also been installed for power development, with "air injection" used to push them to the peak. Koenigsegg has applied for a patent for this new "air injection" system. The engine has 1280 hp with normal gasoline or 1600 hp with E85 biofuel at its disposal, depending on how full it is. This means that Jesko has already set a new performance benchmark for production vehicles. The Jesko reaches a maximum torque of 1500 Newton meters (Nm) at 5100 revolutions per minute (rpm). The newly developed 9-speed gearbox, which Koenigsegg affectionately calls "light speed transmission" (LST), is also fascinating. There is a reason for this, because the Jesko is capable of shifting from any gear to another. You don't shift up and down all the gears on the Jesko, but can shift directly from 7th to 4th gear and vice versa. In doing so, the sports car shows the driver in which gear the driver has the most power. Koenigsegg is aiming to break the 300-mile speed barrier with this ultra-modern bullet, which is roughly equivalent to a speed of 480 km/h. The signs are good for this.

Display of the G-forces
Of course, such a luxury bolide is also equipped with all kinds of bells and whistles for the driver. The new display for the G-forces, which the driver naturally experiences in the curves, takes the cake. Of course, the new Jesko comes with the Autoskin function as in the Regera, with which the doors and hoods are opened hydraulically at the push of a button. The electrically adjustable bucket seats can of course be heated. The interior is modern, functional, yet with that luxury touch, courtesy of the Alacantara trim. The infotainment system is controlled via a touchscreen, plus two small touchscreens on the steering wheel. The interior is even almost a little futuristic.

The 125 vehicles that will be built are aimed at drivers with fat wallets, as the purchase price is likely to range between 2.5-3.0 million euros. In return, they get a street-legal race track car with record speed, innovative technology and ultra-modern features. So something for young sheiks and co. Koenigsegg can only be congratulated once again, the sum of records and innovations that the new Jesko holds are remarkable. It will be interesting to see the attempt to set a new top speed mark with a production vehicle.
