Ski test: Dynastar Legend X88

Calm, confident and secure

Yes, that's how you could describe the character of the new Legend X88 from Dynastar. And this was not a big surprise for me, because I already know Dynastar well, it is one of the most underrated brands you can find among skis. Dynastar is often overshadowed by its big sister Rossignol, but it has specialized in freeride and all-mountain for years and is a real ace at it.

Heavier than the K2, but with more grip
In contrast to the K2 Pinnacle, which I have recently tested and presented, the Dynastar is felt significantly heavier. This is not only felt when wearing, but of course also manifests itself in the behavior on snow. On the one hand, the K2 floats on soft snow felt stronger, is virtually catapulted out when swinging out, whereas the Legend remains rather quiet, but Dynastar's model shows a stronger edge grip than K2's Pinnacle. But they have one thing in common, they are incredibly fun when there is a lot of snow on the slope, because they master such passages easily.

This offers the Dynastar Legend X88
The Legend X88 is on the one hand picture-perfect especially in person, in the sunshine and especially with the green Konect binding, if you like green particularly like me. When I put the ski in front of me at the top station, I already knew it was going to be a cool ride. It was storming pretty hard at the top, massive gusts of foehn whirling the snow wildly into the air and whipping it into the faces of us skiers. That's why the first slope was swept bare and good edges were needed, and that's one of the strengths of the Legend X88, good grip even on slippery spots, that provides safety. On the flat sections there was now all the more snow, no problem with the Legend X88, the ski plows through cool. This is, as I sometimes explain with such types of skis and therefore I certainly repeat myself here, no problem for a ski with this concept. The wider center width, along with the 5-point waist, makes for an optimal shape that is made to glide confidently over soft spots, while not only floating, but noticeably spurring its way through the powdery snow, just great. It's like a steamship that simply pushes away the water and waves on a slightly rough sea, whereas the sport boat clearly feels the waves and has to fight them. Also in terms of maneuverability you can not complain, Dynastar speaks of 18 m radius, and that gives the ski more than her. As I said, not something completely new for me, after all, I had tested the predecessor model Powertrack two years ago and was thrilled.

Conclusion
Overall, the ride with the Dynastar Legend X88 was a real pleasure, it is beautiful, it is fast when you want it to be, but remains very calm, it grips well in slippery places and plows its way confidently through soft snow passages. The strong all-rounder par excellence. It even makes you hungry for more. After I was so light with the X88 on the road, I thought to myself, how would it be just with a number larger, the Legend X96? But I guess we'll have to leave that for another time. I can highly recommend the Dynastar Legend X88.
