Tiroler Zugspitz Arena: Picture book biking

The Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena is one of the biker regions that have something to offer all bikers, whether hobby bikers or experts: It is a biker region like a picture book.

by Martin Budweiser

With the Bike Club, every year we take a trip to a member region of "Mountain Bike Holidays". Since the level within the group is quite different, we need a destination that offers both hobby cyclists and experts everything their hearts desire. Last but not least, e-bikers should also get their money's worth. The Tyrolean Zugspitz Arena fully meets these requirements. Between Germany's highest mountain, the Zugspitze, and the Tyrolean Fernpass, one encounters a wide range of tours at all levels of difficulty. Perfectly signposted routes lead both pleasure cyclists and performance-oriented bikers to dreamlike vantage points, crystal-clear mountain lakes and rustic alpine huts. A large number of lifts, as well as an extensive range of e-bikes, facilitate access to the summit regions and increase the radius of action for unforgettable experiences on two wheels. A true picture book paradise for bikers.

For me personally, it is above all the Blindseetrail that has lured me to the region on the south side of the Zugspitze. While the majority of the group sets off with the guides from the local bike school "Bikeguiding Zugspitz Arena" to explore the region on different routes, I can convince Max to accompany me. In Lermoos, we first board the Grubig-steinbahn to reach an altitude of a good 2,000 meters above sea level in a very relaxed manner. Via the forest road and some short trail sections we then reach the start of the pleasure. At the beginning, most of the way is uphill. Highest concentration is now required to master the technical passages. Shortly after, we are at the highest point of the Blindsee Trail - so now it's finally downhill! This unique trail leads over the dry southern slope of the Grubigstein through mountain pine fields, which repeatedly reveal fantastic views. The stony, partly loose ground requires a lot of feeling, as well as a good balance. The tires, which we ride with low air pressure, provide excellent grip and give us security. We also master the larger steps with bravura, even the sliding section can not stop us - a fall on the left side would be fatal here, however. There is already a good portion of thrill. Immediately afterwards we pass a small waterfall, where we take a short break and fill our water bottles...
