Alpine skiing Kitzbühel: thrilling downhill race on the Streif

A new course was waiting for the men at the start and after the training session a clear favorite was determined: Bode Miller, who distanced the competition by one second.
There were a few surprises in the race. A new track layout, especially the former traverse at the end has been dropped, instead an incredibly strong curve of about 120-140 degrees was waiting for the riders. David Poisson started the race and finished in 2.05 min. The Austrians fought for the top, who had not been victorious for 8 years, but it would not succeed. Then Bode Miller came and drove the top section of the track the fastest and got best time in the end. Bode Miller was not satisfied, however, at the top he apparently made a mistake. As he explained in the interview after the race, he did not see the bumps because of the poor visibility - it was all gray - and committed two driving errors, which he could not make up for, which is why he was very frustrated with himself on the finish slope despite the lead. Svindal ended up 12 hundredths behind. Then the Austrian Hannes Reichelt started the race with bib number 22 and took the victory to the surprise of everyone and to the delight of the home crowd.
Patrick Küng was unable to repeat his victory at the Lauberhorn and dropped back to 14th place, while Didier Defago did well to move up to 8th place. The surprise man was Carlo Janka, who skied from 34th on the grid to 6th place, making him the best Swiss in the top 10. All in all, a great race with a happy winner, which made the Austrian celebrities who came in droves very happy indeed. Federal President, Chancellor, Arnold Schwarzenegger, Eberharter, etc. all came to support their boys.
