Movement: A Fresh Breeze from Western Switzerland

Movement Skis are better known in Switzerland among freeriders and touring skiers, the average skier will not really know the friendly Swiss label from the French-speaking part of Switzerland with the apple as the company symbol. Wrongly, actually, because since the beginning the brand has stood for a great, fresh and upbeat design and high quality. The skis are made in classic sandwich construction with a high-quality wood core with an eye for ecology. Movement pays attention in the choice of wood to the sustainable management of the forest used as well as to low-pollutant production such as the use of a water-based glue to avoid solvents. Also particularly impressive is the fact that the manufacturer, which is based in Puidoux (east of Lausanne), develops many of its own concepts and incorporates them into its skis rather than relying on conventional know-how. These include, for example, specially developed fiber layers.

The brand "Movement
The brand, which launched its first collection in 2001/02 - it had already realized its first prototypes in 1998 - and celebrates its 11th anniversary this winter, was created by Richard Cattaneo and Serge Baud, who had already produced Wild Duck snowboards over 10 years earlier. The goal of the two at the time was to bring the philosophy of the snowboard brand to skis. Significantly wider skis than the competition were the result, which were intended to provide a similar riding experience to snowboards in deep snow. In this narrow market segment, Movement has successfully worked its way up over the past 10 years to become a brand that appeals to freeriders, freeskiers and touring skiers. With sales of around 25-30,000 units per year, Movement is now the second largest ski manufacturer in Switzerland behind Stöckli. That's quite an achievement!

Rocker by Movement
But the Movement brand also has some skis in its range that are of course also suitable for normal piste skiers. In addition, today even the big brands offer more and more skis that are wider and wider and suitable for mixed use on and off the slopes. What's impressive is how thoughtfully and carefully Movement handles the rocker issue. The innovative Swiss company doesn't just hop on a trend, but carefully considers whether and which rocker to offer on which ski with which flex. Many of their skis are still based on the classic rocker construction and for 2013/14 the company promises to do even more, but what Movement offers this winter are already quite great alternatives to many mass rockers on the market.

JAM ER
The part belongs design-wise excellent. The energy that the ski radiates visually promises a lot for its use in the snow. Its wide shovel is predestined for powerful displacement in soft snow, its medium width clearly speaks for its hybrid use on the slopes and in the terrain, the relatively tight radii of 15 to 17 m with lengths between 164 and 182 cm for its turning pleasure. The JAM ER is equipped with an "Early Rise Tip Rocker New Gen" at the shovel. The additional shovel upturn supports the lift in soft snow. Soft piste conditions and off-piste are the JAM ER's favorite territory, but it also finds itself at home on the slopes, although not with the same bite of a race carver ski. The JAM ER appeals to the young and young-at-heart skier looking for fun on or off-piste.

SOURCE
With the SOURCE, Movement actually wants to address the freerider, for which its dimensions 134-94-120 and the lengths between 169 and 193 cm speak. The yellow-black latte is equipped with a progressive shorter front rocker, which strengthens the lift behavior in deep snow. A high level of smoothness is assured, and the turning process is precise. When new snow falls and the slopes are soft or off-piste in open terrain, it unleashes its full potential, but it is also able to parry well on the slopes. Clearly something for friends of the powder.

TATTOO
Equally dimensioned as the SOURCE but with shorter lengths between 159 and 175 cm and tighter radii between 16 and 18 m, the TATTOO model is found among the ladies. With a weight of just over 1.5 kg, it is very light and suits the lady with its maneuverability. It has an "Early Rise Progressive Rocker", which ensures buoyancy in deep snow. With a center width of 94 cm, however, it is still suitable for the slopes and convinces with good edge grip when carving. The right thing for the sporty, sexy piste girl.
