Malaguti e-bikes: a new player in the e-bike market

Probably only a few bikers will know the new e-bike brand Malaguti, although it has a lot to offer. The brand with its rich history has been in the e-bike market since 2021 and has set its sights high. I took a closer look at the brand and took a look behind the scenes.

Malaguti Bikes will be completely unknown and new to many bikers, although Malaguti bikes and motorcycles have actually been around for over 90 years. The history of the brand goes back to the enterprising founder Antonino Malaguti, who opened a bicycle store in Bologna after the Great Depression in 1929. Very quickly, the tinkerer began to develop motorized bicycles, so at a time when the term e-bike did not yet exist. Perhaps better known to some are the Malaguti motorcycles that conquered the world from the workshops of northern Italy.

Malaguti from today
Today, the Malaguti brand is part of the considerable brand portfolio of the Austrian KSR Group. KSR Group is a cutting-edge vehicle group that sells quads, motorcycles, rol-ers and e-bikes in 60 countries and with over 8,000 dealers. This is a blessing for Malaguti, because the young group enriches the vehicle market with the most modern and innovative vehicles. The Austrian headquarters is clearly focusing on creativity, a brand-specific concept and high quality.

Since 2021 Malaguti has arrived in the e-bike market. Currently, the Malaguti range includes 7 models in 11 versions in the price range from CHF 3,790.00 to 7,790.00.
The range includes e-mountain bikes, trekking and city e-bikes. Malaguti believes in the e-bike market and its growth potential. Therefore, 14 models are already developed for the year 2023!

The brand places a lot of emphasis on an Italian, uniform design language, marketing manager Florian Blattner tells us from KSR Swiss GmbH, a 100% subsidiary of the Austrian group in northeastern Switzerland. But that's not all. Quality is also a high priority at Malaguti. Malaguti relies on high-quality bike components and a coherent bike concept. "Only the best is good enough, as long as the budget allows it," could be the motto in the development of the e-bike. A well-rounded thing these Malaguti e-bikes, it must be said, and the price range of CHF 3,790.00 to CHF 7,790 is very fair and very moderate.

Test of the Superiore Ltd
During my visit to the manufacturer and the inspection of the various models I did not want to miss it to test at least one of the models, in this case immediately once the highest quality. The Superiore Ltd from Malaguti is the top class E-MTB. What is not so good to see on the catalog and the pictures is the golden chain, which immediately catches your eye as a special feature. A great detail! Equipped is the E-MTB with top components. Be it the Fox Float suspension of the 160 mm enduro, be it the rear derailleur and brakes from Shimano XT, be it the DT Swiss alloy wheels or the Selle Italia saddle. Nowhere was spared, but here was herangeklotzt. The e-bike is supported by a Bosch motor like all Malaguti e-bikes. In this case, it is the Performance line with 85 Nm max. torque. Fits!

You sit stretched on the Superiore Ltd, a clear sports instrument, so. The wide handlebars provide great handling over hill and dale, but especially downhill that can also go nicely in the arms, so nothing for fitness muffle. The smart combination of 27.5 inch rear wheel and 29 inch front wheel makes for a great mix of strong traction especially when going uphill and enough agility in nature. The XT rear derailleur is precise and makes itself known with a crack from time to time. Here you never have to worry that you have to play mechanic with a chain jumped out in the forest.
The engine pushes cleanly, especially in turbo mode. The small display of the Bosch Kiox shows the speed again and again, but for me personally the Kiox is too small. It also reminds me of the small display of the Shimano EP 8 motor. To me, such small displays tend to get on my nerves, but many like it, because who looks when he is out in nature, always on the display? Right, no one. Such a thing is simply a matter of taste. The brakes are powerful when you need them and the engine pushes hard up to 25 km/h. You can quickly get above 26, 27 km/h. You quickly get over 26, 27 km/h and the engine does not brake like stupid.

Overall, the Malaguti Superiore Ltd shows itself well equipped with everything for a trip over the trails and the ride on the road. You can't go wrong here. Who stands on downhill, the new variant, the Superiore Ltd-C anno 2023 will please.

Conclusion
Malaguti is an e-bike brand with a history and an interesting portfolio of high-quality e-bikes that has something for everyone. Those who appreciate design, quality and a fair price ratio should familiarize themselves with the brand and the models. It could well be that he will find what he is looking for here.
