Jolanda Neff suffers numerous injuries

During a training ride in Pisgah Forest near Brevard, North Carolina (USA), Jolanda Neff crashes at high speed and suffers a ruptured spleen, a broken rib and a collapsed lung.

"On a training track that was new to me, I misjudged a turn during the descent, went off the trail and finally crashed over the handlebars onto a pile of tree trunks. I immediately felt that something was wrong".

Neff describes the accident.

After her fall, Neff received medical attention at a hospital in Asheville, North Carolina. She spent a total of three nights in the care of doctors before being allowed to leave the hospital. Neff's emergency medical team had previously stopped internal bleeding using a technique known as "embolization," preventing Neff from having to have her spleen removed.

The impact of the injuries on Neff's season and Olympic preparations is not yet clear. The plan was for her to start at the 2020 cyclo-cross world championships in Dübendorf on February 1.
