Jannik Sinner wins the Miami Open 2024

Jannik Sinner wins the Miami Open for the first time and works his way up to second place in the world rankings. Grigor Dimitrov's participation in the final was somewhat surprising, having eliminated top favorite Carlos Alcaraz in the quarterfinals. This puts him in the top 10 of the world's best tennis players.

“All good things come in threes,” is a well-known saying. In Jannik Sinner's case, it applies to the ATP 1000 tournament in Miami, because he won the third final game. In the 2021 final he lost to Poland's Hubert Hurkacz and in the 2023 final he lost to Russian Daniil Medvedev. He defeated exactly the same person this year not only in the final of the Australian Open, but also in the semi-finals of the Miami Open 2024. Top favorite Carlos Alcaraz, who won the ATP 1000 tournament in Indian Wells two weeks ago and beat Jannik Sinner in the final, was in Miami surprised by Grigor Dimitrov. At the press conference, the young Spaniard said that during the match he felt like a 13-year-old taking tennis lessons. But Dimitrov not only threw Alcaraz out of the tournament, but also the German Alexander Zverev, the current number 5 in world tennis. The 32-year-old Bulgarian played his current tournament of the year and deservedly made it to the final. Second place at the Miami Open 2024 puts him in the top 10. The end for Alcaraz prevented a repeat of the final between Alcaraz and Sinner. Novak Djokovic, who was eliminated early from the tournament in Indian Wells, canceled his participation in Miami early. It seems that he is currently placing more priority on being able to spend a little more time with his family than on being on the court. The world number 1 doesn't have to prove anything to anyone anyway. With his victory in Miami, South Tyrolean Jannik Sinner is now working his way up to second place in the world rankings, overtaking Carlos Alcaraz. With a lead of around 1,000 points, Novak Djokovic remains at number 1 in the ATP rankings.
