On the hilly 9th stage, Cadel Evans was still able to defend his pink jersey because he did not let his fiercest rival Rigoberto Uran pull away and crossed the finish line at the same time as him in seventh place of this stage. But the Colombian will be a force to be reckoned with, especially from the 14th stage onwards. That's when the mountain stages await the riders and that's where he will attack. Last year he finished second in the overall standings and he will try everything to make it to victory this year. But Nairo Quintana should not be written off yet, and Ivan Basso, who is only two minutes behind, still has a chance to move up.
If the weather plays along and there are no more rainstorms, there will still be an exciting battle of the favorites for the cup.
The next stage is a 173km flat stage from Modena to Salsomaggiore Terme and starts on Tuesday afternoon, as today is Monday, the second rest day. Will Cadel Evans be able to extend his lead? We will keep an eye on it.
