Giro d'Italia 2014 - Stage 8: Foligno - Montecopiolo (179 km)

On the final climb up to Montecopiolo, a group of about 20 riders was in the lead. Robert Kiserlovski (Trek) pulled ahead and was the first to attempt a sprint up the climb to the finish. Diego Ulissi (Lampre) was the only one able to keep up and overtook the Pole in the last left turn before the finish.

Diego Ulissi (Lampre) secured his second stage win in his home Tour in the stage from Foligno to Montecopiolo. The top favorites all stayed close together and arrived at the finish almost at the same time as the winner. Nairo Quintana (Movistar) was fourth, Cadel Evans(BMC) followed in 5th ahead of Rigoberto Uran (Omega). Previous leader Michael Matthews lost over 34 minutes to the winning time and, as expected, had to take off the pink jersey. His compatriot Cadel Evans then became the wearer of the pink bib and the question is how long he will keep it.
