Elan Amphibio in test

Elan Amphibio: sovereign, stable, buoyant

May 9, 2021 was the last day to test a ski in Switzerland. The test took place on the Diavolezza in the Engadine with reasonably sunny weather and plenty of snow.

The region is beautiful, not for nothing is the Engadine considered the most beautiful vacation region in Switzerland. But even in the always fresh Engadine, a ski test in May is obviously no longer the real thing! Why? Because I expected about 20-30 cm high Sulz and that is not much fun, because the Sulz is sticky and obstructive.

At the top at almost 3,000 m, the slope situation was still the best. Here I was able to make my first turns with the supplied Amphibio 18 Ti with double titanal insert in the soft snow and I must say I was more than surprised: it really rides like royalty! Since such stupid sayings of non-useful sporting goods salesmen, who stand at sporting goods discounters the legs in the belly, about "soft Yugoski" extremely annoying. Never listen to such idiots who have some stupid saying in store. With such people, they know they have no idea about anything.

The Amphibio 18 Ti rides extremely confident, stable, extremely smooth and turns really light as a feather. I don't know what I could improve on this ski. But with a designated average width of 73 mm, of course, in massive sulz, which already corresponds to deep snow conditions, is simply also once an end. The further I went towards the valley station, the stickier it became. No fun. Of course, one would have had to wax here additionally, but there one is always wiser in retrospect. The ski itself is an absolutely well-rounded thing for piste skiers who don't exactly want to stumble even with fresh snow or a little too much snow on the slope. Of course, the shape and the wide shovel ensure this. I can warmly recommend the Amphibio to all piste skiers.

Speaking of which, the joke of the Amphibio line is of course the asymmetrical Amphibio rocker, i.e. only the outside of the shovel is rockered. That's why it's printed on the cover sheet which ski is on the right and which is on the left. And I'll be honest: I didn't notice that at all during testing. I was obviously lucky. But whether a mix-up is really that serious? That's something you'd actually have to test. All Amphibio drivers and connoisseurs can be congratulated on their choice: They did everything right. To all those who are now curious, I recommend testing the ski at the next opportunity.
