Not everyone will be familiar with the name Marc Hirschi. After all, the 22-year-old Swiss has only recently joined the big names in the WorldTour, but he has already achieved quite a bit. In particular at the Tour de France 2020, about whose realization there was long raging, and for which even the French head of state Emmanuel Macron had to plead, Hirschi has attracted attention like no other Swiss for a long time. The young Bernese positively surprised already at the 2nd stage of the Tour de France with a 2nd place. In the 9th stage he took 3rd place. And at the 12th stage he even shone with the victory of the same. This earned him recognition, notoriety and points. He crowned the extremely successful year by winning the bronze medal at the 2020 Road Cycling World Championships in Imola. This may not come as a complete surprise given the fact that in 2018 he took the gold medal at the U23 World Championships and also won the U23 European Championships. At the beginning of the year, Hirschi surprisingly changed teams and moved from DSM to UAE Team Emirates. According to statements, there had been a crisis between him and the old team for some time. In such a situation, the support of ex-professional cyclist Fabian Cancellara, who acts as Hirschi's manager, is worth its weight in gold. Hirschi is certainly not a flash in the pan, but how he can hold his own in the team and develop will also determine how the new season will go. Given his outstanding abilities, we can certainly expect positive results.
