Diamondleague Eugene: Record jumps in triple jump

Triple jump the highlight of the meeting
The highlight in terms of results at the Diamond League Meeting in Eugene, USA, has to be the triple jump. With an incredible distance of 18.11 m, the American Christian Taylor achieved a record distance at the Diamond League Meeting. The double Olympic and double world champion in the triple jump almost set his own record of 18.21 m, which he jumped at the 2015 World Championships in Beijing and which, by the way, is the second-best distance of all time. If things continue like this, he could break the record mark of 18.29 m set by England's Jonathan Edwards at this year's World Championships in London. That would be a superhipe! And obviously he must have inspired his compatriot Will Claye to top performances as well, as he jumped to his new record mark of 18.05m, setting his previous best of 17.82m. Clay, it must be said, is also among the crème de la crème of triple jumpers worldwide as a multiple medalist at the Olympics and World Championships. The Americans are well prepared for the triple jump.

Strong 100 meter run
The men's 100-meter dash offered another strong competition. With a time of 9.86 seconds, 23-year-old American Ronnie Baker surprised meeting-goers, not only setting his own new record time, but also joining the top 20 in the world's best 100m list, drawing level with track and field legend Carl Lewis, for example. China's Bingtian Su also set a new personal best with a time of 9.92 seconds and ended up second in the race, and third-placed Briton Chijindu Ujah also set a new personal best with his 9.95 seconds. No wonder then that American 100-meter star Justin Gatlin only ended up in 5th place with his excellent 9.97 seconds.

Other highlights were the new best performance of the American Tori Bowie in the 200 m in 21.77 seconds, who left superstar Elaine Thompson from Jamaica behind her. With a time of 10.94 seconds, the American Morolake Akinosun shone in the 100 m with a personal best. She went head-to-head with Murielle Ahouré of Ivory Coast with a final time of 10.96 seconds (own best 10.78 seconds) and Michelle-Lee Ahye of Trinidad Tobago with a final time of 10.97 seconds. In the 400m, American superstar LaShawn Merritt won clearly in 44.79 seconds. Finally, Mo Farah of Great Britain won the 5000m in a time of 13:00:70, Omar McLeod won the 110m hurdles with a time of 13.01 seconds and Ryan Crouser of the United States won the shot put with a distance of 22.43m.
