ZSC Lions women win the Cup

With a 2:1 victory over the clearly favored Ladies Team Lugano, the women of the ZSC Lions sensationally defend the Cup title. It is their eighth Cup victory in the club's history.

Because many key players left Zurich after last season (including Alina Müller to America, Isabel Waidacher to Sweden) or ended their successful careers (including Christine Meier, Katrin Nabholz, Sara Benz), the team was greatly rejuvenated for the season and is in transition. With the gold medal in the Swiss Womens Hockey Cup, the Lions women nevertheless already put an exclamation mark. They are still a force to be reckoned with!

During the Cup Final weekend in La Chaux-de-Fonds, the ZSC Lions first solved the final ticket with a 4:2 against SC Weinfelden on Saturday, before they won the cup against Lugano on Sunday. In front of 664 spectators, Dominique Rüegg (1:0) and the only 14-year-old Alina Marti (2:1) scored the winning goals. The Lionesses are now coached by Canadian Diane Michaud, who replaced Georg Taferner in November last year.

The match for 3rd place was won by Neuchâtel Hockey Academy against SC Weinfelden 3:1. In the championship, the ZSC Lions are ranked 3rd. On February 2, they will play their last game of the Masterround before the playoffs start on the weekend of February 16 / 17. It is already certain that the Zurich women will face SC Reinach in the semifinals. Mode: Best-of-Five.
