Ski World Cup Giant Slalom Women, St. Moritz

Significantly fewer failures
Whereas in the first run various favorites had to involuntarily bow out of the race, including Lara Gut and Tina Weirather, the second run proved to be much safer to ski, but here too the course had claimed various victims. The culprits were frequently inside skiing errors and slipping on the inside boot, due to the inclined position.

Maze and Gisin work their way to the front
In particular, Tina Maze will have been a small stone off her heart when she took the lead after her arrival in the finish area with a lead of over 1 second, was able to record 3rd place at the end and climbed back onto the podium. Various nasty rumors of serious trouble in Tina Maze's team had made the rounds in St. Moritz, which would be understandable from Tina Maze's point of view. Dominique Gisin also had reason to beam. She had started the second run with bib number 26 and had really stepped on the gas in the lower section of the course, which put her in 13th place as the best Swiss skier.

Successful Swedes
St. Moritz must have suited the Swedes particularly well this year. Second-placed Jessica Lindell-Vikarby has clearly confirmed her strength in this discipline after winning the giant slalom in Beavercreek and her 8th place in Sölden. However, the surprise skier remains Kajsa Kling, who climbed onto the podium yesterday with 2nd place in the Super G and today finished in an excellent 10th place with bib number 39. Less surprising, but just as pleasing from a Swedish point of view, is the 6th place of Maria Pietilae-Holmner, which confirms her strength in the discipline after a 4th place in Beaver Creek and a 7th place in Sölden.
