Valuable tips from Radical Sports: How to store skis

Valuable tips from Radical Sports

How do I store my skis and snowboards correctly in summer?

The end of the season is approaching and with it the question of how to care for skis and snowboard after the last run of the season and how the ski equipment is best stored. With our tips, you can still enjoy your equipment in the coming winter.

Skis and snowboard should be thoroughly cleaned and dried after the last use.

If the running surface of the skis or board is damaged, it should be repaired with the help of a Repair Candle or a professional base patch should be carried out by a specialist before storage. If the edges are rusty, sand it off before storing to prevent it from spreading.

The tread and edges are then sealed with a small layer of hot wax, which is not removed. In this way, the edges are optimally protected against rust, the tread cannot dry out and remains elastic. Before the start of the new season, you then only have to remove the excess wax and expose the structure of the ski or snowboard again with the help of a base brush.

Storage should be in a dry place, protected from the sun. It is best to put up and lean one by one against a wall, so the bias of the products will be relieved. However, make sure that they are protected from falling over. Most edge crushes occur due to a fall on the concrete floor in the garage.

Bindings

Also clean the binding with soap and water and then spray with binding spray. This protects against oxidation and corrosion.

For touring bindings with PIN system, we recommend storing them with the front jaw closed. This to relieve the spring.

Ski and snowboard boots

Ski and snowboard boots should be cleaned of dirt after their last use, then aired out well and dried before they go into the cellar or attic.

For snowboard boots with Boa system, you tighten the lacing and then open the wheel. The shoe thus remains in its fit and the Boa system is relieved.

In the case of ski boots, the inner shoes are removed for drying and only put back into the hard shell after several days of drying. It is essential to ensure that the inner boot sits in the shell without wrinkles and then loosely close the buckles of the ski boot. Thus, the shoe retains the fit and does not deform.
