The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series 2018 starts on 2 June

The Red Bull Cliff Diving World Series enters its 10th round on June 2, 2018 in Texas. Reigning champions Jonathan Paredes (MEX) on the men's side and Rhiannan Iffland (AUS) on the women's side are ready to compete with a total of 14 athletes and 10 female athletes in cliff diving.

After a surprising outcome to the 2017 season, in which Mexico's Jonathan Paredes dethroned six-time overall winner Gary Hunt (GBR) on the 27-meter platform, the World Series now returns to Texas for the fifth consecutive year to celebrate ten years of cliff diving. On the women's side, the last stop in Texas was a harbinger of what was to come during the season: Australia's Rhiannan Iffland won four of six tour stops, including her second in the U.S., en route to her second overall victory. Whether her dominance from the 21-meter platform continues in the fifth year of women's competition and the brilliant Brit finds the right formula to reclaim the King Kahekili trophy will soon be witnessed by crowds of fans at Possum Kingdom Lake.

Texas has always been a good hunting ground for the 28-year-old Mexican cliff diver, who not only picked up the highest number of ten points for a jump in this location, but also a first and a second place in the last two seasons. After winning the thrilling final at the Chilean Falls last October, the "Stylemaster," known for his flawless attitude in the air, is looking forward to eager challengers: first and foremost, the British duo Hunt and former Olympian and 2017 third-place finisher Blake Aldridge.

American veterans Andy Jones, David Colturi and Steven LoBue, who finished fifth through seventh overall in 2017, will be cheered on by enthusiastic fans on boats as they jump into the water from heights as high as six stacked double-decker buses and at speeds up to 85 mph.

In the women's race, the two-time overall winner from Australia can claim her tenth victory in 13 competitions - even her third in a row at Hell's Gate. Exactly at the place where everything started for the women five years ago. However, the 26-year-old is not resting on her success, after all, up-and-coming talents like Adriana Jimenez (MEX), who won the tour stop in Portugal, and Lysanne Richard (CAN) also want some of the glory. The Canadian was second overall behind Iffland until an injury sidelined her for the 2017 season, and she's definitely an athlete to have on your list for the first of five stops for the women.

At the kick-off for the tenth year of the World Series, not only 18 permanent jumpers will be competing, but also four wildcard jumpers each in the men's and women's events. These young talents, among others just 17 years old in the women's and 23 years old in the men's, will really mix up the competition.

2018 will be a special year in the history of the Cliff DivingFor this reason, the World Series once again returns ready to oceans, rivers and lakes as thousands of fans flock from around the world to see outstanding athletes demonstrate their unique athleticism and grace. After Gary Hunt was knocked off his throne by Paredes last year, the record-breaking winner is looking to reclaim the crown this season. Rhiannan Iffland, meanwhile, is aiming for her third consecutive title. When the world's best 14 male and ten female cliff divers start a fierce battle for the King Kahekili trophy, a brilliant start to the season is inevitable.
