Rising wind expected on Lake Zurich - excitement in the Swiss sailing league

For the third round of the Swiss Sailing Super League next weekend on Lake Zurich, excitement is announced. Reason: For once there is no lukewarm breeze blowing, but shifting winds with up to 15 knots force clearly challenge the 12 sailing clubs on the weekend of 7 and 8 September 2019. The rain and temperatures around 10 to 17 degrees Celsius will also give the Swiss sailors in the top sailing league a hard time - this will not be a Sunday excursion.

Sunday will show who can hold their own in lousy conditions and sail successfully in rain and shifting winds. In our big report from August 12 we interviewed the two leading teams and their skippers and asked them about the upcoming races. Now it's time to get serious. The two clubs from French-speaking Switzerland in particular - the Société Nautique de Genève and the Bordée de Tribord - La Neuveville - will do everything they can to maintain their lead and secure their participation in the Sailing Champions League already on Lake Zurich. Whether the three-time Swiss champion, the Regattaclub Bodensee, will simply stand by and watch? - I dare to doubt it. But also the sailing club Kreuzlingen, currently on the 4th position in the table, and also the Yacht Club Bielersee, currently on the 5th place in tableThe teams will want to have their say when it comes to the top places and participation in the international Sailing Champions League.

Is there still hope for the two last placed sailing clubs, the Thunersee Yachtclub and the Zürcher Segelclub? They are already clearly lagging behind and could not convince at all in the first two regattas. If they can't turn things around now, they run the risk of being relegated to the Challenge League next season. The situation is much better for the two clubs in front of them, Club Nautique de Pully and Segel Club Enge. Both have had a good and a bad race and especially the Segel Club Enge could make up points thanks to home advantage and climb up the table again.

With no one wanting to get relegated, all potential candidates participating in the international Sailing Champions League, the league drawing to a close, and we can expect some swirly weather this weekend, it's pretty safe to say there will be plenty going on on Lake Zurich.
