Actually, this 157 km flat stage would have been something for the sprinter teams to make up time and push their strong riders to the front, but they missed this chance.

Three riders who were actually ignored led the favorites and formed a small breakaway group. It was not foreseeable that just these three riders would pull something in this flat stage. Venezuelan Jackson Rodriguez (Androni Giocattoli) was 168th in yesterday's time trial, Angelo Tulik (Europcar) from France was 135th and Italian Marco Canola (Bardiani-CSF) was 95th.
But they kept the chasing pack at bay until the end. Marco Canola in the light green dress pulled the sprint 200 meters before the finish and could prevail. Jackson Rodriguez was second closely followed by Angelo Tulik.
The decision in the peloton could Nacer Bouhanni (FDJ.fr) in front of Giacomo Nizzolo(Trek) in his favor and thus became fourth. In the meantime, however, nothing has changed in the overall classification of the top ten. Probably the favorites saved their strength for tomorrow's upcoming mountain stage.
