The 41.9km individual time trial took Tour participants from Barbaresco to Barolo. To the surprise of many spectators, the winner was Colombian Rigoberto Uran of Team Omega-Quick Step.

One of the top favorites, Rigoberto Uran, surprised his competitors when he crossed the finish line after Italian Diego Ulissi ( Lampre-Merida), who was stopped at 58:51 minutes, after only 57:34 minutes, a whopping 1:17 minutes faster. Cadel Evans even lost 17 seconds more than Ulissi and finished third in this race. Since Cadel Evans was "only" 57 seconds ahead , Rigoberto Uran has now taken the pink jersey from him and is currently the overall leader. Uran seems to attack earlier this year to surprise his opponents, which he succeeded in doing today. Already last year Cadel Evans, Uran's fiercest pursuer, which brought him then 3rd place in the final Tour standings. Co-favorite Nairo Quintana has lost more time to the leader, but has moved up two places in the overall classification.
