Fantastic final at the French Open 2015

In particular, the last encounters between the two opponents Wawrinka and Djokovic were always a real thriller, characterized by fighting spirit, creativity, determination and playing intelligence. And it was always close. This was to be the case in this final as well, because there was a lot at stake for both of them: For Djokovic, it was about winning the title of this Grand Slam for the first time and for Wawrinka, who was in the final of the French Open for the first time, it was clear that it could only be about the trophy, what else.

Accordingly, Stansilas Wawrinka served aggressively in the first service game with which he opened the final. It was clear from the start that he wanted to win and defeat Djokovic. But Djokovic is currently in top form and is deservedly number 1 in the world. Accordingly, the Serb returned strongly. It should therefore come as no surprise that Wawrinka, despite a strong game, was already worried about his first service game when the score was 40:40. Wawrinka won his first game in a hard-fought battle, a sign of a really tough fight that the spectators could expect on this bright Sunday afternoon in Paris. Djokovic, on the other hand, was convincing right from the start with his strong first serves, which is why the score was soon 1:1. In the following games, both players had clear break chances, which Djokovic took advantage of to take a 4:3 lead. At 5:4 and on Djokovic's serve, the Serb won two set points at 40:15. Stan shone here with fabulous returns and levelled at 40:40. But Novak was too superior and took the first set 6:4. In the decisive moments Djokovic was simply too strong, Wawrinka blundered.

Was this a bad omen? No, not at all. Anyone who knows Wawrinka and had watched the matches between the two in recent months and years knew that Stan would not give up for a long time yet, he was too determined to carry the trophy home. With strong returns, longlines, passing shots and serves, the Swiss managed to snatch the second set and level the match. Intoxicated by the upward trend, he set the tone even more in the third set, which he won brilliantly. Did Djokovic have a weak phase? Was yesterday's semifinal match against Andy Murray still in his bones?

Now Wawrinka was ahead and Djokovic had to take the fourth set if he still wanted a chance to win. Wawrinka now knew how to play Djokovic up against the wall with very strong passing shots, especially at 4:4 in the fourth set, when Wawrinka broke Djokovic with fabulous returns and was able to serve for the match at 5:4. But Djokovic did not want to give up without a fight and so it came to the Deuce, to Advantage Djokovic, but with calm, determination and impressive returns, at the end with a longline Stanislas Wawrinka defeated Novak Djokovic with 6:4, 4:6, 3:6 and 4:6 and thus wins his second Grand Slam title after the victory at the Australian Open 2014.

He said in the interview that he could hardly believe what he had achieved today, that it was always a great challenge to play against Novak. This was the biggest challenge he could achieve in his life.

Never-ending standing ovations followed the appearance of Novak Djokovic, who played an excellent tournament and deserved to win here. Visibly moved by this overwhelming and impressive recognition of the spectators, Novak was struggling with tears. In the interview Djokovic said it was a difficult moment for him, but there are more important things than victories, it's characters, respect, you are a great player, Stan! Stan also congratulated Novak, who was a great player and deserved to win this title once.
