EV Zug: Josh Holden becomes assistant coach

Josh Holden, legendary EV Zug striker who has been responsible for the wealth of goals and success of the Central Switzerland ice hockey club in recent years, is moving from the players' bench to the coach's bench. The 40-year-old Canadian becomes assistant coach at EVZ and starts his second career as a coach with a one-year contract.

The EVZ will start the 2018/2019 season with a three-member and completely new coaching team. After the appointments of Dan Tangnes as head coach and Stefan Hedlund as assistant coach, the position of the second assistant coach will be filled by Josh Holden. The long-time EVZ forward will also take on additional responsibilities as Development Coach with the first team, the farm team EVZ Academy and the youth team. EVZ Sports Director Reto Kläy is pleased that the deserving player will remain in the EVZ organization: "Josh has done a lot for the EVZ, identifies totally with the club and has immense experience. In addition, I am convinced that the three young coaches share the same philosophy and complement each other ideally."

Josh Holden ended his active career in March 2018 after 19 professional seasons. Born in Calgary in 1978, the Canadian was drafted by Vancouver in the first round as No. 12 in 1996 and made 60 appearances in the NHL for Vancouver, Carolina and Toronto. In 2008, he joined EVZ from the SCL Tigers and was a leader on and off the ice for 10 seasons with the Zugers. He spent last season as a 5th foreigner with the first team and forward with the farm team EVZ Academy, where he was able to gain his first coaching experience as an extended arm of the coach. Now he wants to focus one hundred percent on coaching and training. His playing career will be honored accordingly during the season kick-off festivities.

Josh Holden has been living with his family in the canton of Zug for 10 years and should receive his Swiss passport soon. This has no influence on his commitment as assistant coach.
