Crowdfunding for Europe's first BMX superpark

Berlin, July 26, 2017 - For the first time in its history, Berlin's Mellowpark is launching a crowdfunding campaign to finance a new project. Bike enthusiasts, fans and users of Europe's largest skate and BMX park can help with the crowdfunding campaign to create the largest and most spectacular ramp landscape in Europe in Berlin.

Ramps up to six meters high, endlessly rideable, spread over an area of more than 3,000 square meters - the planned BMX superpark in Mellowpark in Berlin-Köpenick goes beyond all dimensions that Europe's BMX scene has known so far. In the next five weeks, the operators want to raise the necessary start-up capital for their "Project M" via crowdfunding.

"We have never asked our visitors and friends for help, always managed everything on our own. But now we need their support to rebuild the heart of the park," says Max Tuchtenhagen from Mellowpark.
In 2010, the operators had to demolish a similar facility because Mellowpark had to move. Since then, they have built various new spots and a youth center on the new property, which is five times as large. Only the popular BMX superpark is still missing. It is to be made entirely of wood by the park's own ramp builders and set new international standards - also with a view to the Olympic Games, because BMX freestyle will be an Olympic discipline for the first time in Tokyo in 2020. Professionals and also amateur riders would thus have optimal training conditions in Berlin-Köpenick.

The Superpark is primarily aimed at BMXers. However, those who know the Mellowpark know that no one is excluded here. The facility is therefore also there for everyone else who is on wheels and rollers, whether inliners, skateboarders, scooter riders, roller skaters or wheelchair skaters. The operators have already proven that Mellowpark can integrate different user groups. Germany's only BMX supercross track is also located on the grounds. In addition to the national team, up-and-coming riders and beginners also chase each other over the 400-meter course during training. Many of them come not only from Berlin, but often from far away.

The operators of Mellowpark want to raise a total of 240,000 euros as seed capital to cover part of the construction costs. The rest will be covered by the state of Berlin and Mellowpark itself. Depending on the amount donated, each supporter will receive a special thank-you gift. These range from limited edition T-shirts and caps to professional BMX photo shoots, BMX ramps for their own backyard and exclusive advertising space for companies on the new facility.
