Chung knocks Djokovic out of Australian Open 2018

It is simply impressive and beautiful how young Hyeong Chung from South Korea performs at the Australian Open 2018, defeating great competitors with calmness and consistency, making a Korean tennis fairy tale come true. When has a Korean ever been in a Grand Slam final? Never! With this, Chung writes Korean tennis history. No wonder he jokes at the press conference afterwards: "Yes, my victory today means for my country that tennis will come to us after tonight". But what is so incredibly impressive about the story is the way this young man performs: calm, focused, modest, reserved. You can feel his respect for this big tennis world that is so new to him, and that's how inspiring his winners are against really big names like Zverev or now Djokovic.

Djokovic still injured?
Certainly, Chung was helped in the fourth round by the fact that he was facing an opponent who had been out for a good six months due to injury. Djokovic had been forced to take a break after Wimbledon 2017 because he couldn't lift his arm. And he seemed to be struggling with the elbow problems that forced him to retire six months ago in the match as well. But in the end it was a match with fabulous winners on both sides, especially Chung managed to impress. Djokovic also had to give him this credit. An excellent match that has a worthy winner. Djokovic in particular is Hyeong Chung's idol, as are the other big names in tennis, so this must touch him all the more.

Quarter finals and now what?
Chung not only advanced to the quarterfinals of the Grand Slam by defeating Djokovic in just three sets, but also made a name for himself internationally in the tennis world. In particular, the consistency of his performance indicates that the 21-year-old Korean could still have a great tennis future. Now he faces the equally unexpected American Tennys Sandgren in the quarterfinals. If he plays like he did in the last two matches, chances are good that he will move on to the semifinals, where he will most likely meet Roger Federer.
