Worn Wear Tour at Transa: Increasing the life of your own clothing

THE WORN WEAR TOUR COMES TO SWITZERLAND: BETTER THAN NEW

The Swiss Worn Wear Tour starts in September. It helps customers use their clothing for a lifetime.

Amsterdam, in the Netherlands (September 2016) - Using our clothes for as long as possible is the best thing we can do to reduce the burden on nature. By prolonging the life of our clothes through care and repair, we need to buy fewer new things and thus avoid the CO2 emissions, waste and wastewater that would be associated with their production.

After the successful tour through Europe in April this year, Patagonia is proud to continue its mission with 5 stations in Switzerland, helping customers to use their clothes (no matter what brand) for a lifetime. At each station, zippers, tears, holes and other damages are repaired for free and people learn how to repair their clothes themselves.

The Swiss Worn Wear Tour starts on September 20 in Basel and ends on September 28 in Geneva. It will stop at the Patagonia Store and at various retailers in Basel, Zurich, Interlaken, Bern and Geneva.

The Patagonia Worn Wear program was launched in 2013 to motivate people to take care of their clothing and repair it when necessary. It's an implementation of the philosophy Patagonia has followed for over 40 years (and the motif of our statement on the Black Friday consumer frenzy that our 2011 "Don't Buy This Jacket" ad also expresses). Worn Wear's goal is to ensure that clothing (regardless of manufacturer) is used for as long as possible. If it ever needs to be replaced, then you should invest in a durable product.
That's why Patagonia manufactures the most solid and functional products and provides a lifetime warranty. And that's why Patagonia is now going on tour - to spread the pioneering Worn Wear message across Europe.

"Making durable products that can be repaired is the first and most important step in reducing our environmental impact," says Patagonia company president Rose Marcario. "We want to give our customers the chance to really be owners, not just consumers. It's a simple but important message: if you wear your clothes longer, you reduce the burden on nature."

The mobile Worn Wear workshops are equipped with Juki industrial sewing machines and are available to anyone who needs to repair clothing, regardless of brand. At the same time, the goal is to educate about the philosophy behind the Patagonia Worn Wear program. And there's some fun, snacks and drinks too.

Of course, you can also tinker with your supply chain, find better sources, use only recycled materials and donate millions of dollars to environmental groups until you go black - but nothing is more important and effective than wearing your clothes for as long as possible. Using your clothes just nine months longer reduces your CO2, water and waste footprint by 20-30% each, according to the British organization WRAP - simply because less is then produced and thrown away.
