Ueli Steck's death shocks mountaineers and fans worldwide

Ueli Steck, who has been climbing since he was 12 years old, had countless successful climbs in his bones when he set off again for the Himalayas this April. He had climbed all four-thousand-meter peaks in the Alps in record time, set several speed records on the north face of the Eiger, conquered the Matterhorn, and climbed several 8,000-meter peaks in the Himalayas, including Mount Everst, without oxygen. His talent was extraordinary and the various awards for his impressive achievements were more than deserved. Ueli Steck was rightly considered one of the best mountaineers in the world and the most successful and famous climber in Switzerland. The Lhotse Everest Project 2017 unfortunately became his undoing on April 30, 2017. When he entered the Lhotse flank in the early morning, he plummeted at an altitude of 7,600 meters. At an altitude of 6,600 m, his body was recovered. On May 4, 2017, he was cremated in the presence of his family at Tengboche Monastery near Kathmandu in a three-hour ceremony.
