The Swiss Sailing Challenge League is decided

Between September 13 and 15, the final races of this year's Swiss Sailing Challenge League took place on Lake Thun. In splendid weather, the 12 sailing clubs were able to compete in 26 exciting races. Before the races, the Zurich Yacht Club, the Cercle de la Voile Vevey la Tour and the Cercle de la Voile de Neuchâtel were in the lead, with the Yacht Club Zug, the Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano and the Yacht Club Kreuzlingen bringing up the rear. How did it turn out?

The Zurich Yacht Club with Lukas Looser at the helm, Tobias Looser, Til Winkler and Felix Samtheim, who already shone in the first two rounds and deservedly led the standings, maintained their lead with a fourth place finish in the race. Promotion to the Super League is now certain for the Zurich team. The French side from Vevey also showed themselves in exemplary form. The Cercle de la Voile Vevey la Tour with the "young guns" Wolf Van Cauwenberghe, Sébastien Aubord, Edouard Gander and Isabella Loïc could now also win this regatta after its victory in Davos and thus secure the second overall place.

The Cercle de la Voile de Neuchâtel was excellently placed with their results so far, but on Lake Thun their nerves failed them. They just missed the promotion to the Super League and lost it to the ladies team from Thalwil in Zurich. The sailing team from Thalwil with Mara Bezel, Moira Hegi, Fabienne Morath, Giulia Corbelli and Fiona Müdespacher almost sank a little on Lake Davos after their dream start in Lugano, but with a certain esprit and the fun that is so important for the women's team, they were able to achieve another dream result with a second place in Spiez. The thanks for this is the third place overall and the promotion to the Super League, which the sailors had not now set as a goal, as Mara Bezel revealed to us in Augustbut which they will surely receive with pleasure.

Where there is light, there is also shadow. Even before the race, it was clear that the Kreuzlingen Yacht Club would have to bite the bullet and be relegated. Obviously, they had already come to terms with this somewhat, as evidenced by their last place in the race, which now sealed their end in the Challenge League. The Circolo Velico Lago di Lugano had put itself in great danger of relegation with a poor finish in Davos. The Ticinese obviously did not want to let that sit on their hands and once again gave full throttle in Spiez. With a victory in the last race, the Ticino sailing club was able to secure 6th place in Spiez and narrowly avoid relegation. Although the 7th place in the race was the best performance of the Yacht Club Zug so far, they could not sail their way up sufficiently with it and have to be relegated as well. Sailing Club Hallwil has to swallow a somewhat bitter pill, they had managed to get out of the danger zone in Davos, but with their desolate result in Spiez they had sailed into relegation, which is why Kreuzlingen, Hallwil and Zug have to be relegated.
