The new cycling calendar 2020

The International Cycling Union (UCI) today presented the outline of the revised 2020 international road calendar. At a video conference organized today by the Union Cycliste Internationale (UCI) in the context of the current coronavirus pandemic and attended by all the main representatives of professional road cycling - organizers (AIOCC, and heads of ASO, RCS, Unipublic and Flanders Classics), teams (AIGCP) and riders (CPA) - several decisions on the revision of the 2020 UCI International Road Cycling Calendar were taken unanimously by the various parties concerned as follows:

- The period of suspension of competitions in the UCI International Road Calendar is extended by one month, until July 1 and until August 1 for UCI WorldTour events
- The Tour de France is postponed and will be held this year from August 29 to September 20. The holding of this event will take place in the best possible conditions, considered essential given its central position in the economy of cycling and its exposure, especially for the teams that will benefit from unprecedented visibility on this occasion.
- The 2020 UCI Road World Championships in Aigle-Martigny, Switzerland, will be held on the scheduled dates of September 20-27. The competition program remains unchanged.
- The Giro d'Italia takes place after the UCI World Championships and is followed by the Vuelta Ciclista a España.
- The national championships, organized by the national federations, will be held on the weekend of August 22-23, 2020.
- The UEC European Road Championships will be maintained.
- The most prestigious one-day road races (the Monuments), i.e. Milan-Sanremo (Italy), the Tour des Flandres (Belgium), Paris-Roubaix (France), Liège-Bastogne-Liège (Belgium) and Il Lombardia (Italy), will all take place this season on dates to be determined.
- As many events as possible on the UCI international calendar, especially the UCI World Tour, will be rescheduled later in the season.

The UCI is continuing its work in parallel and in close cooperation with the various parties concerned in order to be able to announce a revised version of the UCI WorldTour calendar for women and a new version of the entire UCI international calendar (men's and women's races in all cycling disciplines) no later than May 15, 2020. However, this calendar will continue to be dependent on the world health situation.

In addition, the UCI welcomes the agreement signed yesterday by the UCI, the CPA and the AIGCP, all three of which are represented in the ad hoc working group set up by our federation, on the framework that will allow teams in serious financial difficulties to take the measures necessary for their survival while safeguarding the rights of their riders and staff in this uncertain environment. This agreement testifies to the sense of responsibility of the various players in cycling at a time when unity is essential to limit as much as possible the negative effects of the crisis.

UCI President David Lappartient said: "I would like to express my appreciation to the representatives of the organizers, teams and riders for their cooperation and commitment in these difficult times. With the coronavirus pandemic that has rocked the world, much remains to be done to complete the creation of a fully revised UCI international calendar for 2020, but today a first very important step has been taken. Likewise, we have put in place a framework that will allow the fundamental rights of the riders and staff of the teams to be safeguarded, while at the same time taking the necessary measures for the survival of these teams. Together we will be able to overcome this crisis and rebuild cycling after November 19.
