Mikaela Shiffrin cheers again

In the last race before the Alpine World Ski Championships in Are, American Mikaela Shiffrin left no stone unturned in the slalom race in Maribor, Slovenia, outclassing her opponents in the first run. Petra Vlhova (SVK) was second, one second behind, followed by the Swedes Anna Swenn Larsson and Frida Hansdotter. The latter with a gap of 1.57 seconds. Wendy Holdener (SUI) was in 6th place a massive 1.90 seconds behind the leader.

Light rain and difficult track conditions in the second run
Bernadette Schild (AUT) improved in the second run and finished the race with a good run as the best Austrian in 6th place. After her, Christina Geiger was the only German to ski a spirited race and was in the lead until the first intermediate time. But right after the good intermediate time she got behind, took off and this mistake cost a lot of time and also a better ranking. Wendy Holdener tried to make speed right from the start and extended her lead over the leading Bernadette Schild continuously to almost one second until the finish, which finally brought her third place. Frida Hansdotter skied cautiously and did not risk everything, which is why she was two tenths behind the Swiss at the finish. One had the feeling that it might have something to do with the nomination of the racers for Are. On the other hand, her teammate Anna Swenn-Larsson, who started the race after Hansdotter, skied easy and swinging past the poles, which was enough for her to take the lead. Petra Vlhova, who followed her, did not make any big mistakes. But with the 27th best time and 0.93 sec. behind the leading Swede, she dropped back to fifth place. Mikaela Shiffrin started the race as the last skier and even increased her lead a bit until the first intermediate time. After that, like Vlhova before her, she also had trouble with the rain-softened piste and again lost four tenths to the Swede. But with the advantage from the first run the victory was not to be taken away from her and she deservedly won this race.
