Mélanie Meillard in Olympic misfortune

Four days before the start of the giant slalom in Pyeongchang, the 19-year-old from Neuchâtel falls during training and injures herself so badly that she can no longer take part in the Olympics. The Swiss medal hopeful suffered a ruptured cruciate ligament and also injured her outer meniscus.

With third place at the City Event in Oslo at the beginning of January, she still achieved her first World Cup podium finish and thus confirmed her excellent form. But after this misfortune, she will not be able to compete in South Korea in either the giant slalom on Monday or the slalom the following Wednesday. For the likeable French Swiss, not only do her medal dreams for the 2018 Olympics vanish into thin air, but it also means the premature end of the World Cup season for her.
