Lauberhorn Race 2018: Beat Feuz with the number 1 to victory

Beat Feuz started the race at noon today with bib number 1. Such a number 1 always has two sides. The advantage: The slope is still pretty much untouched and free of competitors' tracks. The disadvantage: You don't yet have any feedback from previous riders on what to look out for during the run.

Beat Feuz's run, by the way, in bright sunshine, looked solid and fast, as one is used to from the Bernese, but as a spectator one did not have the feeling that the time was unbeatable, one imagined to have seen the one or other mistake. But already with the ride of number 2, the Canadian Manuel Osborne-Paradis, who crossed the finish line more than 2 seconds behind, one could guess that Beat Feuz's ride was much better than it seemed at first. With the number 3, one of the strong favorites started into the race, the Norwegian Aksel Lund Svindal, who won the Lauberhorn race 2 years ago and has been shining with excellent results since his return to the World Cup. And indeed, the Norwegian was able to take a few hundredths of a second off the Bernese Oberlander in almost all intermediate times, until a minimal gap of 0.18 seconds was illuminated at the finish. It was clear that Feuz's run had been first-class. Beat Feuz was reluctant to take a podium place and wanted to wait for the other skiers to finish, but one could already guess that it was a winning run that he had delivered. And so it came to pass. Neither the Austrians nor the Italians or even the Americans or Germans were able to knock him off his throne. In the end, Beat Feuz deservedly won the Lauberhorn Downhill 2018, and we congratulate him!
