Lara Gut is in shape

You wouldn't necessarily have expected that before the start of the season, and you certainly shouldn't have. The results achieved by the likeable Ticino native are unparalleled among women in the Alpine Ski World Cup. And she also puts her own previous achievements in the shade. 9 podiums in six years was her record up to the current season, including three victories: 2008 in the Super G in St. Moritz, 2011 in the Super G in Zauchensee and 2012 in the downhill in Val d'Isère. Previously considered a promising talent who stood out, she now seems to have matured into a top athlete who wants and is able to score successes, one after the other. Four victories in six races are a win rate of 66%, not to be compared with previous years. Let's see another female ski racer top that. But it is to be feared that she will not be able to maintain this winning streak. There was already a clear damper in the downhill in Lake Louise, where a 10th and a 13th place resulted. The victory in the Super G was the deserved revenge. The question is how solid she is, how stable this super form is.

Now St. Moritz is coming up next weekend. She has already won the Super G once and the Super G and the giant slalom seem to be working well in general at the moment. The following weekend is Val d'Isère with the downhill and the giant slalom. If luck is on her side, she could have an amazing series of victories and blow away any statistics that have ever existed before. We shouldn't expect it from her, but we should certainly be happy if this possible stroke of luck happens.

At the moment, many spectators and experts alike are surprised by her winning streak so far. She deservedly leads the overall World Cup ranking at the moment with 445 points ahead of Maria Höfl-Riesch, Anna Fenninger and Tina Weirather, as well as the ranking in the Super G. It is to be hoped that she will manage to extend the lead in the Super G with a podium finish in St. Moritz. We can only do one thing from here: Fingers crossed!
