Hotel Casa Berno, Ascona: And the sun laughs!

There's a reason why Switzerland's sunniest region is so popular with vacationers from the north. Once through the Gotthard and in about two hours, the climate changes from frosty cold to pleasantly mild, from misty dull to sunny bright. This is especially good for racing cyclists who want to do a few laps on their road bikes, or for bikers who want to dash over adventurous trails on their mountain bikes. The region around Lake Maggiore is not only beautiful, but it also offers bikers great tours, whether for road bikes or mountain bikes.

Whether you want to roll down the valley from the Cardada, Locarno's local mountain, go on a discovery tour through the Maggia valley, cycle along Lake Maggiore, discover little roads with hardly any traffic between Brissago and Ascona, start a tour on the Alpe Neggia or dare a detour into the Val Verzasca, the region is really rich in tours of all levels of difficulty and every façon.

In this pretty spot, the director Bruno Caratsch, himself a passionate biker, and his team welcome bikers and cycling enthusiasts to his first-class hotel Casa Berno to pamper them by every trick in the book. The hotel is perched loftily above Ascona, surrounded by a magnificent subtropical garden, and offers a breathtaking panoramic view of Lake Maggiore and the Gulf of Ascona. Not only bon vivants will love it. All of the over 62 elegant hotel rooms have their own balcony and offer the unique view of the enchanting region. Guests appreciate both the regionally inspired, Mediterranean cuisine and the spacious pool, which invites you to relax after a strenuous bike tour. A small wellbeing offer with sauna, solarium and classic massages is also available.

Bike days with Nicole Brändli
From April 20 to May 4, 2013, the Bike Days will take place for the first time with ex-professional cyclist Nicole Brändli, who shone in her active days, for example, with a 3rd place at the Giro d'Italia 2009 or with an 8th place at the World Championships 2009 in Mendrisio. Today she runs her own bike store in Losone above Ascona and organizes these special days together with the Hotel Casa Berno. She not only guides enthusiastic mountain bikers expertly through the region, but also teaches participants a few tricks of the trade on the mountain bike with a trail technique course. This is an excellent opportunity to spend some sunny days in the south and to learn some tricks from a former top athlete of cycling.

The hotel is concerned about the comfort and well-being of its guests, whether it is to strengthen them for the day with a rich breakfast in the morning, to wash their bike clothes daily, to provide them with one of the 12 hotel-owned Merida mountain bikes or to pick them up free of charge from the train station in Locarno, if they come by train. Either way, the signs are good that bike guests will feel at home at Hotel Casa Berno.
