Giro d'Italia 2014 - 17th stage : Sarnonico - Vittorio Veneto (208km)

In this 208-kilometer flat stage, a 26-man group of riders broke away from the peloton about 60 kilometers after the start. Thomas de Gendt(Omega) initiated the decision with his attack about 20 kilometers before the finish. Only four other riders were able to keep up with him, who then fought for the day's win. Stefano Pirazzi(Bardiani-CSF) was able to prevail in the final sprint and won the 17th stage ahead of Tim Wellens(Lotto-Belisol), Jay McCarthy(Tinkoff), Thomas de Gendt(Omega) and Matteo Montaguti(AG2R La Mondiale).
The favorites all arrived at the same time and crossed the finish line more than 15 minutes after the winning quintet. Rigoberto Uran , Cadel Evans and Nairo Quintana finished consecutively in 28th, 30th and 47th place.
