Today's men's alpine ski slalom in Chamonix was a treacherous race in which many skiers misjudged the slope and the course setting. A full 18 skiers dropped out in the first run, including Slalom World Cup leader Henrik Kristoffersen (NOR). Daniel Yule was once again the best of the first run, in fourth place was somewhat surprisingly far ahead the Italian Stefano Gross.
But it was to be no different in the second run and even the top favorites fluffed, first and foremost the Swiss Daniel Yule, who missed the entry to the next gate after just a few gates, or Alexis Pinturault, who was unable to pass the following gate properly after a hairpin turn, although he was still clearly in front at the first intermediate time and could have taken over the red bodice of the Slalom World Cup leader.
So Frenchman Clément Noël was the lucky winner in his home race, because he too struggled to catch the gates correctly in the second run and not drop out. That Timon Haugan (NOR) and Adrian Pertl would finish the race with a podium place was then a big surprise for everyone. However, the fourth place of Michael Matt, who has been working for a long time to be able to race for podium places again, was also pleasing.
Russian Alexander Khoroshilov finished the race again among the top ten and continues his successful years, as well as Frenchman Jean-Baptiste Grange who finished tenth.
