2nd Peak: first outdoor secondhand store

Since May 16, 2020, the specialized trade has been enriched by a new store. The "2nd Peak" offers second-hand outdoor clothing and equipment. Is there a need for used outdoor articles and this sustainably? Second-hand stores are usually niche businesses and live from the motivation of the operators. For this reason, 2nd Peak is probably even more of a project, after all, the start-up is a pop-up store that is testing its raison d'être for 9 months at a prominent location on Europa-Allee in Zurich.

Not far from the big competition - the 3000 m2 Transa store "rules" in the immediate vicinity - the founder and passionate mountain sportswoman, Isa Schindler, has opened her 2nd Peak. The location is good. In the immediate vicinity of Zurich's main train station, which is frequented by over 300,000 people every day, the chances are good that one or the other passerby will also discover her new store and become enthusiastic about it, or at least tell others about it.

Multiple benefits
2nd Peak is also about serving different interest groups, the one who wants to lighten his overcrowded closet a bit and turn it into money, the other who wants to buy outdoor gear at a low price at an auction and last but not least the society to do something against the senseless waste of clothes. 2nd Peak writes to us about this:

"I looked in my closet and could immediately take myself by the nose. As an enthusiastic mountain sportswoman, I have an arsenal of high-quality functional clothing and still buy something new every now and then. Many of my mountain colleagues feel the same way. Almost everything is still far too good for the trash and yet you don't put it on anymore. So the pieces just hang in the closet," says Isa Schindler, explaining how she came to think about it. Outdoor clothing is made to be robust and durable and was basically designed for professionals. Functionality was at the origin. Today, however, it is worn by everyone who can afford it and feels it confirms their style and self-expression. One need only look around in the Unterland to discover the numerous overland adventurers and urban Indians, even in their everyday business lives, who indulge in the urban outdoor fashion trend. Not infrequently, a purchase serves the desire to get a little closer to his dream - for example, to run a marathon or climb a particular mountain. And so the closest mountain is the clothing mountain. "With outdoor clothing, second use is especially useful. It's durable, has a longer fashion cycle, is highly problematic to dispose of in some cases by comparison - and it's expensive." Having become aware of the problem and the gap in the market, Isa Schindler decided to take matters into her own hands: "My goal is to keep as much good outdoor clothing in circulation as possible and make it accessible to new owners. 2nd Peak is my answer to outdoor fashion waste. My dream is coming true!"

It will be interesting to see how the business develops for Isa Schindler. We keep our fingers crossed for it. For the curious and interested: Until May 30, there are more proceeds for sellers and more discounts for buyers!
