Tour de France 2013: Yellow is the trump card in July

The organizers of the Tour de France have come up with a lot for the anniversary race. The inclusion of Corsica, beautiful coastal regions, tough mountain stages and a night race in Paris really put the crown on the 100th event.

Yellow stands for victory in the Tour de France, because the overall winner with the lowest total time wears the coveted yellow jersey of the world's most important stage cycling race in Paris at the latest. At the 100th edition - the special anniversary race "la Centième" - most riders are aiming for the same, although only a small number of the entire field of riders have a real chance to stand on the winners' podium on July 21, 2013. The fact that after 110 years - the Tour de France started in 1903 - there are only 100 editions, the organizers owe to the two world wars on European soil, during which, of course, the Tour could not be held.

From beautiful to extravagant
The Tour event has come up with quite a few ideas for the anniversary race, so this year's Tour begins on June 29, 2013 in Porto Vecchio and thus includes the Mediterranean island of Corsica for the first time in its history. The flat stage to Bastia as the start of the Tour should suit the sprinters and give them a chance to grab the yellow jersey. After two more, slightly hillier stages, the Tour crosses over from the mainland and continues the race with a 25km team time trial through Nice.
