Patrick Küng retires from ski racing

Patrick Küng in portrait

Patrick Küng has had to bite hard the last few years. After his great successes in 2013-2015 with some strong results in the World Cup, winning the Lauberhorn downhill in Wengen or the gold medal in the downhill at the Alpine World Ski Championships in Vail/Beaver Creek in the United States in 2015, he had a hard time catching up with the top again. In the last three seasons in particular, he has been repeatedly flushed to the back of the pack, the last time finishing 42nd in the downhill in Bormio on Dec. 28, 2018. After his heavy crash during training in Wengen for the Lauberhorn downhill on Jan. 20, 2019, the point had obviously come for him.

After 10 years in the Alpine Ski World Cup, Patrick Küng is saying goodbye to his active life as an alpine racing skier and is now turning his attention to a new phase in his life. Of course, this step was also very emotionally charged for him after such a long racing career. With him, a likeable Swiss athlete is leaving the international ski stage. Sportguide wishes him all the best.
