K2 ECOre: balsa wood for minimum weight

Even an absolute touring ski amateur will be aware that the goal of every ski tourer will be to have as light a ski as possible under his feet, after all, you do hike a few kilometers through the snowy landscape and in the long run even a little extra weight eats away at your legs by the ton. It is therefore only too understandable that K2, as a leading brand in the touring sector, comes to the market with a technical innovation, the ECOre models. One model each for men and women is available for classic touring skiers to choose from. The highlight of the story is that the wooden core in these models is made of balsa wood, as known from model making. To make the core stable and strong enough, it is made of a combination of grained balsa wood, balsa brain wood and flax fiber strands. K2 calls this combination of materials "ECOre," which is a whopping 41% lighter than the famously lightweight paulownia wood. The weight comparison of the models Wayback 82 with 1280 g / ski and Wayback 82 ECOre with 1090 g / ski makes it clear. The same ski model is 15% lighter just because of the lighter ski. That's what I call innovation and the feet and legs will thank you. The climbs are now even easier, the descents offer reliable performance.
