Jolanda Neff suffers collarbone fracture: out for cyclo-cross world championships

As a change from her successful mountain bike races in the summer, the woman from eastern Switzerland is racing cyclo-cross this winter and doing so successfully. The cyclo-cross world championships on February 3 and 4, 2018 in Valkenburg, Holland, were already on the horizon, as was the prospect of a world championship medal, but then came the crash and with it the end. Mountain bike world champion Jolanda Neff crashed during the cyclo-cross World Cup race after touching Frenchwoman Pauline Ferrand-Prévot in Hoogerheide (NLD) on Sunday, Jan. 28, 2018. In the process, Neff broke her left collarbone and underwent surgery on Monday. The examinations have also confirmed that the right elbow is also broken. This injury is being treated conservatively.

Jolanda Neff: "I felt good yesterday and had fun in the cyclo-cross races this year. The worst thing is not the physical pain, but the idea that I will miss the World Championships at the end of the week. In addition, together with my Polish KROSS team, I have decided to skip the first Mountain Bike World Cup in Stellenbosch for the sake of recovery. I plan to be fit until the first World Cup in Europe (in Albstadt)."
