Grégory Rast announces retirement

At the age of 38 and after 11 years of racing on Trek bikes, Swiss cyclist Grégory Rast has decided that 2018 will be his last cycling season as a professional cyclist.

Rast started his racing career with the Post-Swiss team in 2001 after starting as a trainee in 2000. In his 17-year career, he participated in 10 grand tours and 51 classics. His victories include two Swiss championship titles, a stage in the Tour de Suisse or the victory of the Skoda Tour of Luxembourg.

Rast: "I am happy, the word is out and now everyone knows that I will retire at the end of the season, but the season is not over yet, I will focus on the upcoming races the next few months and look forward to them before thinking about this being my last race. I will give everything for my team and myself to finish the end of my career at the highest possible level."

General Manager Luca Guercilena: "I am happy that we quickly reached an agreement with Grégory. He is a strong support in the team and over the years he developed into an excellent leader of the young riders. He shared his extensive experience and knowledge with them without holding back. Therefore, we are happy to keep him with us. We are now looking at different options, but we haven't yet defined the function that it will end up being."

Rast: "It's never easy to say it one day, but I feel relieved. After 17 years of bike racing, it's not easy to leave everything behind, so I'm so happy to get the chance to stay with the team. I've been with this team since the beginning and I rode for Trek since 2008. When I got the offer from Luca to stay with the team, I didn't have to think twice about it."
