Lake Garda: classic versus insider tip

The mild climate, the southern ambience, the good food and countless, appealing tours for road cyclists attract thousands of road bike guests to this region year after year.

Lake Garda is considered a true classic among die-hard racing bike enthusiasts. The Trentino region around the "most beautiful" lake in northern Italy has always had a great attraction for two-wheeled guests from German-speaking Europe. The almost perfect conditions make the well-known cycling mecca one of the most popular vacation and training destinations for alpine racing bike enthusiasts. Many even go so far as to claim that the road bike is as typical in this region as pizza and red wine with dinner. A fantastic mountain landscape, the mild climate and countless, interesting racing bike routes of all levels of difficulty attract thousands of cyclists every year: it is a true racing bike destination. The Giro d'Italia probably also contributes its share to increasing both the level of awareness and the appeal of the cycling region. Almost every Giro somehow passes by Lake Garda and many of the racing bike heroes live here during the season, on the shores of Lake Garda.

Road bike tour Monte Baldo
Tenno and Cavedine Lake, Monte Bondone and of course the famous Monte Baldo are among the most popular road bike tours. The tour on the Monte Baldo is exhausting and takes a whole day, but it should not be missing in a tour repertoire. Starting from our active hotel Santalucia in Torbole, which by the way is run by a passionate racing cyclist, we ride along the lake to Garda. Our guide has already pointed out to us before the departure that there are some tunnels between Torbole and Malcesine, so we are well equipped with rear lights and high-visibility vest. The ride along the lake is quiet and relaxed. Drivers are used to overtaking cyclists in droves on the road every day and we enjoy the lake view. Reaching our first stage destination, Garda, we leave the lakeshore and tackle the first, still gentle climb, to Caprino Veronese. From here it goes up and up, the distant view seems to change with every meter of altitude covered, until we....
