It has long been rumored that a big change was coming in the spring. One of Zurich's most traditional sports stores in a prime location on Bellevue is temporarily closing its doors. Sonja and Arthur Eberhard are giving up their business after 30 years. Consumers today shop differently, online offers and the extremely increased competition thanks to the transparency on the Internet are causing problems for long-established stores. Anyone running a sports store today has to contend with poorer margins, meet higher online marketing requirements and live with sales crises caused by climate problems. The last two winters in particular, which were simply too warm, have done Bächtold Sport in. After more than 30 years of Bächtold Sport, the Eberhards are now looking forward to a new phase in their lives.
From April 15 to June 1, 2017, the store will be temporarily closed. From June a pop-up store is planned, it is open who will rent the store space for a short time. After that, they write on their homepage, the "New Bächtold-Sport" should reopen the doors with a new concept, new management and new team from late autumn 2017. Too bad about the traditional store, which exists since 1912, but one can look forward to the new business concept.
