With a lightning-clean run in the second run, Alexis Pinturault (FRA) secured victory in the men's Alpine Ski Giant Slalom in Garmisch-Partenkrichen ahead of Switzerland's Loic Meillard, who created a very good starting position for himself as the best in the first run. Norway's Leif Kristian Nestvold-Haugen took the second run with a lead of just five hundredths over the Frenchman. Although he lost almost four tenths to Pinturault by the second intermediate time, he was able to defend his third place from the first run to the finish.
Henrik Kristoffersen started the second run in second last place, but skied too cramped and was already half a second behind the leader at the second intermediate time. At the finish, the gap even added up to almost 8 tenths, which meant final seventh place for the top favorite.
An outstanding second run was achieved by Croatian Filip Zubcic, who finished second in the Giant Slalom in Adelboden and drew attention to his potential. From 10th place in the first run, he improved to fourth place in the final standings with a sensational run.
Alexander Aamodt Kilde confirmed his good form and all-rounder qualities with a sixth place finish, following second place the day before in the downhill, and Stefan Luitz finished in the top ten in his home race with a strong second run.
