The tall Spaniard has already won a total of five races this year. The Vuelta a Andalucía, the Tour of Murcia, Roma Maxima, the Gran Premio Miguel Induráin and Flèche Wallonne (Walloon Arrow). And it seems that the really big victories are yet to come this year.

Alejandro Valverde already has an extensive racing cycling biography. He felt the urge to dedicate himself to cycling at an early age and took part in his first races at the age of 9. After being a successful amateur, he moved to the pros in 2002 with Team Kelme-Costa Blanca. A year later he was already third overall in the Vuelta and won the bronze medal in the World Road Race Championships. Since then, he has always been among the trophy contenders in both small and large tours.

2004: Fourth overall at the Vuelta a Espana (Tour of Spain)
2005: Silver medal World Championship, Road Race
2006: Second overall at the Vuelta a Espana, bronze medal at the World Championships, road race, winner of individual UCI Pro Tour classification (world's best rider)
2007: Sixth in the Tour de France, winner of the Tour of Valencia and Tour of Murcia
2008: Winner of the Tour of Murcia, the Tour of Paris-Camembert and the classic Liège- Bastogne -Liège
Winner of the UCI Pro Tour individual classification (world's best rider), ninth in the Tour de France
2009: Overall winner of the Vuelta, Tour of Catalonia and Tour of Burgos
