Alberto Contador says "Goodbye"!

Yesterday one of the world's greatest professional cyclists announced his departure from international cycling. In his video message on his Facebook account, Alberto Contador announced that this year he will ride the Vuelta à Espagna and that this Tour will also be his last race as a professional cyclist.

Spanish professional cyclist and multiple Tour winner Alberto Contador has announced through a video on his social media channels that the next Vuelta a España will be his last race as a professional cyclist.

In the video, the captain of the Trek-Segafredo team explains that the Vuelta a España, held in his native Spain, is the best opportunity for him to say goodbye to cycling and its countless fans without sadness and without regretting anything.

Luca Guercilena, General Manager Trek-Segafredo said: "It was an honor to work with such a great champion. Alberto Contador has shown his fighting spirit and professionalism all the years. To give you an example, at this year's Tour de France he demonstrated his personal motto that we can only admire "Where there is a will, there is a way". Even after the crashes, due to which he could no longer race for the victory, he continued to fight for stage wins and a good place in the overall classification. This shows how strong he is, mentally and physically."

"It was great to have him in the team, even if it was only for one season, and we will give everything to support him in the best possible way so that he will pull out a strong result at his last Vuelta a España. We wish him only the very best for his future after cycling!"

Until the start of the Vuelta a España on August 19, 2017 in Nîmes, France, Alberto Contador will focus on his training to take on his final challenge in the very best shape.
