8.61 m: Long jump record in Shanghai

The Shanghai Golden Grand Prix, respectively the Diamond League Meeting in Shanghai, was under a very good star in terms of records in the long jump. The South African Luvo Manyonga set a meeting and Diamond League record with his impressive distance of 8.61m. He already proved that the South African is capable of such distances with his jump of 8.65 m on April 22, 2017 in Potchefstroom, South Africa, with which he set his personal best and placed himself 11th in the world best list. The 26-year-old is thus definitely the gold candidate for this year's World Championships in London.

The 19-year-old American Noah Lyles also delivered a surprise over the distance of 200 meters. He won the race with a clear lead, leaving his compatriot and double Olympic champion Lashawn Merritt well behind him in 2nd place. In the 110 m hurdles race, Jamaican and last year's Olympic champion Omar McLeod won almost as expected with a final time of 13:09 seconds. Also compatriot Elaine Thompson, Olympic champion over 100 m and 200 m 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, showed herself in top form. Especially towards the end of the race, the 24-year-old Jamaican unstoppably pulled away from all the other eight runners and set a world best for the year with a running time of 10:78 seconds.
