Many had Wendy Holdener already on the calculation, not only because she could already win in the World Cup at it, but also because the discipline alpine combination for many drivers, who are strong in individual disciplines, is nothing with which they can succeed. Michelle Gisin also achieved her best result in the World Cup in the alpine combined and seemed to be inspired by the good mood in the Swiss team. The surprising retirement of Lara Gut, who had a bit of a slalom after the downhill and suffered a serious injury, completely paved the way for Holdener and Gisin.
In the end it came as many had suspected and hoped. Wendy Holdener kept her nerve in the slalom and, after the fourth-best time in the downhill, conjured up the second-best time in the slalom to take the gold medal. Michelle Gisin had paved the way to the silver medal with the best time in the downhill and the fourth best time in the slalom. Austria's Michaela Kirchgassner shone with the fastest slalom run, but had lost around 4 tenths to Holdener and over 7 tenths to Gisin in the downhill, which is why she was able to claim the bronze medal at the end of the race.
For Switzerland a huge cheer and a huge party! All hell broke loose in St. Moritz!
