History

The history of the Rossignol brand and company goes back to the carpenter Abel Rossignol, who first produced and marketed wooden skis in Voiron, France, in 1907. In 1936, Rossignol celebrates its first world sporting successes when Emile Allais wins a medal at the Garmisch-Partenkirchen Olympics and becomes the first French Alpine skiing world champion on Rossignol the following year. In 1967, the Dynastar brand is purchased and integrated into the company. The ski industry grows continuously and experiences a real hype in the 70s, which Rossignol also feels positively. In 1976 Rossignol breaks the million mark in sales of ski pairs worldwide. In 1987 Rossignol launches snowboards for the first time. In 1989, the ski boot brand Lange joins the group. In 1994, Rossignol buys the Look binding brand, which in the future will be part of the Rossignol portfolio. In 2005, the group is acquired by the Quiksilver group. In 2008, the group is bought by the company Chartreuse and Mont Blanc, led by Bruno Cercley. In 2013, the Norwegian Altor Investor group enters as the main shareholder and takes over the majority of shares in Rossignol, in addition to the French shareholders, Bruno Cercley and the management of the group. Today, Rossignol carries 11 brands in the sports sector under its umbrella. In the recent past, Rossignol has integrated the bicycle business into the group, including the purchase of the American bike brand Felt. Since 2018, Rossignol has been launching its own bikes and e-bikes.
