Dynastar Speed 963 - season 2021/22 - in test

Today's ski test of the model "Dynastar Speed 963" was fun and made one thing clear: The Dynastar Speed 963 is a real master ski that provides real pleasure when skiing on the slopes. The model is aimed at all piste skiers who want to float light-footed, elegant and safe over the slopes. The ski deserves the grade excellent and can be warmly recommended.

At the end of the ski season, you ideally test the ski models for the next season. At Dynastar, the 2021/22 racing ski range has been beefed up with new, beautifully designed models. The highest-quality model, the "Speed 963" model, I was allowed to test today.

For this I had chosen the sunniest day of the week and went with it to the Rothorn in Lenzerheide. The parking lot was full and that on a Wednesday in March! Do people just sit around at home? Or have all the home office workers secretly gone to the mountains behind their boss's back. Also at the cash desk they couldn't explain it. The restrictions on transporting people are a plus, but whether they are fully observed? You should always keep it that way and not cram people into the full cabin like cattle. The Corona pandemic is having a positive impact on rail transport. But well, this is not the topic now.

Grade: Excellent
At the top of the mountain station, conditions were pleasant on Wednesday: The bright sunshine provided good visibility, the temperature was cool but not icy, and even the wind, which often blows at the top, held back a bit today. We were ready to go. The first turns followed and the first look at the slope, which was full of soft passages. Actually nothing good for a racing ski, but it glided nobly over them, Wow, I thought. The first turns were a pleasure, the Dynastar Speed 963 turns so easily, as if you were floating on a spring and yet it showed no canting in the soft snow. Especially in March, this tends to be a problem, as the snow gets softer as the temperatures rise, but as long as it stays cool enough, no problem for the Speed 963. Turning in also feels easier than before. Have I made progress or is the ski really that good? And no, this is not a brag for Dynastar. If the ski sucked, it would say it sucks. There are already enough gossip magazines that only write what the industry wants to hear, especially if there is money in it. But at Sportguide, we are committed to the truth and the consumer, and we write what is true. But what else do you want to write but that the ski is a blast when it rides so great. The turn initiation is light as a feather, the ski glides very finely and confidently even over soft snow passages on which there is too much unprepared snow, almost like a flying carpet, it shows itself very precise and equipped with a pleasant edge grip, which is strong, but not so strong that one easily tilts and falls in soft snow passages. The perfect mix, in other words. The ski shows an all-around perfect handling, only down in the valley, where the sulz becomes more and more, it takes significantly more force to fight against possible Verschneider, but that's normal for a racing ski.

Overall, Dynastar can only be complimented on the "Speed 963" model. Through and through a balanced racing ski that is in control in all situations, which rides pleasantly light and does not place too high demands on the driver. It shines with perfect balance between edge grip and danger of blending and shows itself grippy on hard and slightly icy spots, but also sovereign on soft snow passages. Anyone who can't ski well on this ski definitely needs ski lessons. Everyone else will have a blast with it. We can highly recommend this ski to all skiers with the best of conscience! A compliment to Dynastar for this master ski!

  1. Hello Rolf,
have you zuffälig also the Speed OMEGLASS MASTER SL also getestett?
Or can you please explain the difference?
    Thanks in advance
    BG Alex

    1. No Alex, I have not tested the model. The difference is that the Master belongs to the racing ski series and was also developed in this environment. In fact, as far as I know, the difference in terms of construction and mass is relatively small. Visually, there is a clear difference. The question is, do you want an established model from the race ski collection or a new race carver.
